Active Sitting- Strongly Encouraged!

Bouy StoolDo you ever hear or find yourself saying "sit still and stay focused"  or "stop moving and listen"?  Not in our classrooms!  We know that children naturally want to move.  Instead of students focusing on sitting still and thinking about the consequences if they can't sit still, students are instead better able to focus on tasks at hand and a deeper level of thinking.    Research shows that moving can actually improve a child’s ability to focus.  For this reason we strongly encourage active sitting- which could be sitting or standing!  Active sitting encourages students to perform controlled micro-movements which improve blood and oxygen flow to the brain which increases concentration.   Research show this actually improves a child’s ability to focus.   There are multiple types of active seats available.  Click on the images, do a little reading... find out which seat is best for your child.  Reach out to your child's teacher and see if you could send one to school.  We are a Welcome BYOS (bring your own seat) classroom- Meaning we have the standard chairs, we have some active seats but not nearly enough, so if a parent wants to send one in for their child, they are more than welcome to.
